Size Guide

How to measure

  1. Stand on a sheet of paper with your heel against a wall, wearing the socks you will wear with the shoe.
  2. Mark the paper at the tip of your longest toe. That is not always the big toe.
  3. Measure from the wall to the mark. Do both feet and use the longer one.
  4. Measure at the end of the day, when feet are at their largest.

Widths

Most of what we carry comes in more than one width. If the length is right but the shoe feels tight across the ball of your foot, go wider rather than longer. Sizing up for width leaves the arch support in the wrong place.

Paul's take on the Navigate

Orthofeet Navigate, a men's everyday sneaker in soft leather with Orthofeet's hands-free heel. The heel counter is firm; you step on it, it folds, then it comes back up behind the heel. No bending, no laces. It is the plain leather sneaker in the line, for a man who does not want to look athletic.

Ortho-Cushion sole with a grippy tread, removable orthotic insole, extra-depth last, padded interior with no seams over the toes. Takes a custom orthotic. Leather does not stretch like knit, so buy the width you need.

Medium, Wide or X-Wide? Medium (D) if your regular shoes fit across the ball of the foot. Wide (2E) if you size up for room or have a bunion. X-Wide (4E) for a bulky orthotic, swelling, or an extra-depth prescription. Between two, call (704) 846-0301.

Stocked in White and Black, sizes 7 to 15 in half sizes to 12. Screened and stocked by Paul Henderson, C.Ped, at our Matthews, NC store. Prefer a stretch upper to leather? Yari or Tilos. If a sore heel brought you here, read which Orthofeet I pick for plantar fasciitis.

FAQ

Questions people ask

Which width should I order?

Medium (D for men, B for women) if your usual shoes feel fine across the ball of your foot. Wide (2E for men, D for women) if they pinch there or you have a bunion. X-Wide (4E for men, 2E for women) for swelling, an orthotic, or when wide shoes still pinch. Still unsure? Call Paul at (704) 846-0301 and he'll size you by phone.

Will my custom orthotic fit?

Yes. The insole lifts out and the shoe has extra depth, so your orthotic goes in its place. Take the Orthofeet insole out first rather than stacking the two.

How does the hands-free heel work?

Tie the laces once to the fit you like. After that, step down onto the back of the shoe: the heel folds down, then springs back up around your heel. To take them off, press the back down with your other foot.

Should I order my usual size?

Most people wear their usual size. If you're between sizes, or your feet swell by afternoon, go up a half size. If your usual shoes feel tight across the ball of the foot, choose Wide or X-Wide rather than a longer size.
