About Diabetic & Neuropathy
When your feet have lost some feeling, the shoe has to do the noticing for you. I look for a smooth interior with nothing to rub, extra depth so the toes never press against the top, and a closed toe that keeps out bumps and scrapes. Which shoes help with this?
Look for a firm heel counter, real arch support, a cushioned but stable sole and a roomy toe box. The three pairs at the top of this page are the ones Paul starts with. If you are unsure, call us at (704) 846-0301 and we'll help you choose.
Which shoes make it worse?
Flat, flexible shoes with no arch support, worn-out sneakers, flip-flops and high heels usually make foot pain worse. So does walking barefoot on hard floors.
What width should I choose?
If shoes pinch across the widest part of your foot, or you have bunions or swelling, choose Wide. Orthofeet makes most styles in Medium, Wide and X-Wide. Our width guide explains the letters.
Do I need an orthotic too?
Not always. Many of these shoes already have good arch support. An orthotic helps when you want a firmer, measured arch, or want support in shoes you already own. Find the right orthotic in three questions.
