Size Guide

How to measure

  1. Stand on a sheet of paper with your heel against a wall, wearing the socks you will wear with the shoe.
  2. Mark the paper at the tip of your longest toe — that is not always the big toe.
  3. Measure from the wall to the mark. Do both feet and use the longer one.
  4. Measure at the end of the day, when feet are at their largest.

Widths

Most of what we carry comes in more than one width. If the length is right but the shoe feels tight across the ball of your foot, go wider rather than longer — sizing up for width leaves the arch support in the wrong place.

These are standard US measurements. Fit still varies by brand and by style, and if you wear an orthotic you may need a half size more room. Between sizes, or feet that never seem to fit anything? Call (704) 846-0301 — fitting is what we do.

The one place nobody wears support

We fit people all day for what they wear to work, and then they go home and stand on a hard floor barefoot. A slipper with an actual arch in it is the cheapest thing on this website and it's the one we most often wish people had bought first.

The hours you're barefoot are the ones that hurt

People spend a fortune on work shoes and then walk on a tile kitchen floor in bare feet for four hours a night. If your heel is worst on the first steps in the morning, or if it flares after an evening at home, that's not a coincidence.

Look at this one side on: there's a real arch shape in the footbed, the same idea Aetrex builds into their shoes, not the flat sheet of foam a normal slipper gives you. That's the whole reason to own a pair.

The footbed seen from above

Memory foam over a shaped footbed

Memory foam on top for the softness you actually want in a house shoe, over a contour that holds its shape underneath.

The plush lining is treated against odor as well, which matters in something you'll wear without socks.

The rubber outsole

There's a real outsole under these

Rubber, not the felted fabric most slippers use. It grips a wood floor better than a sock does, and it won't shed itself across the house.

We'd still call them indoor shoes. Aetrex publishes nothing at all about wearing them outside, so treat the outsole as insurance rather than permission.

Side profile from the inside edge

Nothing comes out of these

Aetrex lists this style as Removable Insole: None. The footbed is part of the slipper, so there's nowhere for a separate orthotic to sit.

If you wear a prescribed device every day and you want that support at home too, say so before you order. That's a real conversation and there are house shoes that take one.

Materials, heel height and the description of the arch support are published by Aetrex and quoted here as the manufacturer's claims. A slipper is not a treatment for any medical condition and is not protective footwear. If you have diabetes, neuropathy, reduced sensation, or an open wound on your foot, talk to us or to your doctor before choosing what you wear at home.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Wearing them outside, orthotics, neuropathy, sizing, washing, and how they compare to our Orthofeet slippers.

Will these help my plantar fasciitis?

This is the one place a slipper genuinely earns its keep. Plantar fasciitis is usually worst on the first steps of the morning and after a spell off your feet, and the common thread is what you're standing on when you're not wearing shoes.

Aetrex designs the built-in support to help relieve plantar fasciitis, arch pain and heel pain. Note the wording, theirs and ours: help relieve, not treat. A slipper isn't a treatment, and if your heel pain is new, severe or getting worse, get it looked at.

What we'd actually say is this: if you've bought good work shoes and you're still sore, the barefoot hours at home are the obvious next place to look.

I have neuropathy or diabetes. Are these all right for me?

Please talk to us or to your doctor before you buy, and here's the honest reasoning rather than a disclaimer.

A slipper with support in it is better than being barefoot on a hard floor, and that's a real point in its favor. But this one isn't protective footwear. Aetrex publishes nothing about toe protection or seam construction, and the footbed doesn't come out, so there's nowhere to put a prescribed device or an accommodation your podiatrist wants added.

If you have reduced sensation, the thing that matters most is noticing a stone, a seam or a hot spot before it becomes a wound, and this slipper isn't designed around that. Footwear that is exists, and we fit it.

Call us at (704) 846-0301. It's a five-minute conversation and it's worth having before you spend anything.

Can I wear them outside?

We'd treat them as indoor shoes, and we'd rather be straight about why: Aetrex publishes nothing at all about outdoor use for these. No waterproofing, no traction rating, nothing.

There is a rubber outsole under them rather than the felt sole most slippers have, so a quick trip to the mailbox isn't going to destroy them. But the upper is plush fabric, and wet fabric against your foot for an afternoon is its own problem. Treat the outsole as insurance for the odd step outside, not as permission for a walk.

Can I put my own orthotics in these?

No. Aetrex lists this style as Removable Insole: None, so the footbed is part of the slipper and there's nowhere for an insert to sit.

If you wear a prescribed orthotic all day and you want that support at home as well, call us at (704) 846-0301 before you order. We stock house shoes with a removable insole and we'd rather put you in the right thing than sell you this one twice.

What size should I order, and why are some listed as a pair?

Your normal shoe size. These aren't sized differently from shoes, and Aetrex says nothing about sizing a slipper up for thick socks, so if you live in wool socks all winter that's worth a phone call.

On the pairs: 7.5 - 8 US isn't a typo. These are built on European lasts, where one EU size covers two US sizes. A band is one size written as two, so pick the band your size falls in. A 7.5 takes the 7.5 - 8.

The Mandy goes down to a 5 - 5.5, so there's a size here if you're at the small end of the range.

How does this compare to the Orthofeet slippers you carry?

It comes down to how you get into them and where you'll wear them. The Mandy is closed at the toe and fastens with a hook-and-loop strap you can set yourself, which is why we hand it to people whose feet swell through the evening. It's a women's shoe and we'd treat it as an indoor one.

The Orthofeet Lorin (women's) and Vito (men's), $119 either way, are suede slipper-shoes you step into without bending down, lined through with faux fur, and Orthofeet build them for indoors and out. That's the pair to ask about if reaching your feet is the problem, if you want something you can wear to the mailbox and back, or if you need a men's size, because the Mandy doesn't come in one.

If you're torn, call (704) 846-0301. It usually comes down to whether you want a strap you can adjust or an opening you never have to touch.

Can I wash them?

Aetrex publishes no care instructions for these at all, which is the honest answer, so what follows is ours rather than theirs.

Spot clean with a barely damp cloth and a little mild soap, and let them air dry at room temperature. Don't put them in a washing machine or a dryer. Heat is what kills a memory foam footbed, and the footbed doesn't come out to dry separately.

Do they need breaking in?

The slipper doesn't. Your foot might.

If you've spent years barefoot at home, an arch shape under your foot will feel like something is pushing up, because something is. That usually settles in a few evenings. Start with an hour or two rather than a whole weekend.

What if they don't work out?

Call us. We run a comfort guarantee: if they don't feel right, we'll make it right with an exchange or a refund.

Aetrex also warrants against manufacturing defects for six months. If a strap or a sole fails in that window, tell us and we'll deal with them so you don't have to.

Can I try them on, or get advice by phone?

Yes to both. We're at 924 Park Center Dr, Ste 101, Matthews, NC 28105, open Monday through Friday 10 to 6 and Saturday 10 to 4.
