Paul's Note

"Lovely sandal, wrong shape for a lot of feet. A toe post sits exactly where a bunion is, and it only stays on if your toes hold it. If either of those is you, take a slide instead and you'll get the same foam."

Finding Your Fit

Size

  • Order your usual US shoe size. Comfort styles run true to size.
  • Between sizes, or wearing thicker socks? Choose the half size up.

Width

  • Medium (D): the standard width.
  • Wide (2E): more room in the forefoot. Pick this if your toes feel squeezed in regular shoes.
  • X-Wide (4E): the most room. Best for swelling, braces, or thick diabetic socks.

Wearing custom orthotics?

Order your usual size. The extra depth and removable insole leave room for most orthotics.

What it actually does for a sore foot

A recovery sandal isn't a supportive shoe and isn't trying to be. Its job is the hours after the run, the shift, or the long day on hard floors. This is the lightest and least structured way OOFOS makes to get there.

37% more impact absorbed than traditional footwear, per OOFOS
For the moment the running shoes come off

For the moment the running shoes come off

This is the sandal the whole brand was built on, and it's still the one people reach for straight after a run. Nothing across the top of the foot, 9.5 oz for the pair, and 20 mm of foam under a heel that has just done five miles on pavement.

It isn't competing with your running shoe. It's what stops the loading when the run is over.

Same heel cup as the slides

Same heel cup as the slides

Whatever you think of a toe post, the back half of this sandal is identical to the OOahh: a walled, rounded cup that lets the fat pad under your heel settle into the foam instead of sitting on top of it. If you buy one of these for the first steps out of bed, that's the part doing the work.

Cushioning, not support

Cushioning, not support

OOFOS says OOfoam absorbs 37% more impact than traditional footwear. That's cushioning, and on a sandal with this little upper it's the entire product. Nothing here is holding your arch or controlling your foot.

Machine washable, no break-in

Machine washable, no break-in

One molded piece with nothing to wear through. Wash them and air dry, but keep them out of the dryer, because heat is what breaks foam down.

Impact and APMA figures are published by OOFOS and quoted here as the manufacturer's claims. OOFOS publishes nothing about the toe post, so everything this page says about it is our own fitting experience, not theirs. Recovery footwear isn't a treatment for any medical condition. If you have diabetes, neuropathy, or any loss of sensation in your feet, talk to us or your doctor before wearing an open sandal.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

The toe post, sizing, orthotics, care, and how to reach us.

I have bunions. Will the toe post bother me?

Almost certainly, and we'd rather lose the sale than have you find out at home. The post sits in the web space right next to the joint that a bunion pushes outward, so it rubs on the tender side of it with every step.

The OOahh Slide is the same 20 mm of OOfoam and the same footbed with nothing between your toes. That's the pair we'd put you in.

What if I have hammertoes, claw toes, or numbness in my feet?

Then we'd steer you away from a thong. It only stays on if your toes grip it, and toes that are already contracting don't need more of that.

If you have diabetes or any loss of sensation, a toe post is a rub point in the one place people check least, and you won't feel it if it breaks the skin. Please call us at (704) 846-0301 or talk to your doctor before choosing open footwear.

How is this different from the OOahh Slide?

The upper, and nothing else that matters. Both are 20 mm of OOfoam on the same patented footbed with the same cupped heel. This one is a thong with a toe post and is half an ounce lighter for the pair. The OOahh is a slide with a strap over the forefoot, and is labeled in men's sizes.

Pick on the upper, not the foam. They cushion identically.

What size should I order?

The sizes on this page are US women's. OOFOS builds one unisex sandal and labels it two ways, so if you normally shop men's, add 2 to get your size here: a men's 9 is the women's 11.

Whole sizes only, no half sizes and no widths. Between sizes, go up. If your feet swell through the day, size for the evening rather than the morning.

Will these help my plantar fasciitis?

For a lot of people they help with the part of the day nobody thinks about: the first steps out of bed and the last hour at home. Deep cushioning with a cupped heel is much kinder to an irritated heel than a bare tile floor. What they won't do is support the arch through a working day, and they aren't a treatment. If your heel pain is new or getting worse, get it looked at.

Will these work with my custom orthotics?

No. There's no insole to lift out: the footbed is molded into the sandal itself, so an orthotic has nowhere to sit and nothing to sit against. If you rely on orthotics, treat these as something to change into around the house and call us at (704) 846-0301 for a shoe that will actually take them.

What are the specs?

Height 20 mm. Weight 9.5 oz for the full pair. OOfoam footbed with OOFOS's patented footbed geometry and a rounded, cupped heel. Whole sizes only, unisex build, labeled in US women's on this page. Machine wash and air dry.

Every figure there is published by OOFOS for this style. They don't publish a heel-to-toe drop, don't describe the footbed as removable, and publish nothing at all about the toe post, so we don't list any of those as facts.

How do I take care of them?

Machine wash and air dry. Keep them out of the dryer and away from radiators, because heat is what breaks the foam down and the foam is the entire product. OOFOS warrants every pair against defects in material and workmanship for six months.

Can I try them on in store, or get advice by phone?

Yes to both, and with a toe post we'd rather you tried. We're at 924 Park Center Dr, Ste 101, Matthews, NC 28105, open Monday to Friday 10 to 6 and Saturday 10 to 4.

Call (704) 846-0301 and you reach our fitting team, not a call center.

Can I use FSA or HSA to pay?

Usually not for a recovery sandal on its own. Some plans reimburse therapeutic footwear when it's recommended for a diagnosed condition, which normally means a letter of medical necessity from your doctor. Call us before you buy and we'll tell you honestly where this pair is likely to fall.
