Size Guide

How to measure

  1. Stand on a sheet of paper with your heel against a wall, wearing the socks you will wear with the shoe.
  2. Mark the paper at the tip of your longest toe. That is not always the big toe.
  3. Measure from the wall to the mark. Do both feet and use the longer one.
  4. Measure at the end of the day, when feet are at their largest.

Widths

Most of what we carry comes in more than one width. If the length is right but the shoe feels tight across the ball of your foot, go wider rather than longer. Sizing up for width leaves the arch support in the wrong place.

Paul's take on the Rosel

Orthofeet Rosel, a women's leather ankle boot with Orthofeet's hands-free heel. Step down on the heel counter, it gives, then springs back up around the heel, so the boot goes on standing up. No laces, no zipper. A plain leather boot for town that takes an orthotic and does not look like it.

Slip-resistant Ortho-Cushion sole with a mild rocker, removable orthotic insole, extra-depth last, padded interior, wide toe box. Takes a custom orthotic. Rosel is not waterproof; for rain and trail, Carmel.

Medium, Wide or X-Wide? Medium (B) if your regular shoes fit across the ball of the foot. Wide (D) if you size up for room or have a bunion. X-Wide (2E) for a bulky orthotic, swelling, or an extra-depth prescription. Between two widths in a boot, go wider. Call (704) 846-0301.

Stocked in Brown and Black, sizes 5.5 to 12 in half sizes; stock is thin on this one, so check the size picker. Screened and stocked by Paul Henderson, C.Ped, at our Matthews, NC store. Blaire adds a strap and gore to fine-tune the ankle; Bliss is the lined winter boot. Width still a question? My width guide walks through it.

FAQ

Questions people ask

Which width should I order?

Medium (D for men, B for women) if your usual shoes feel fine across the ball of your foot. Wide (2E for men, D for women) if they pinch there or you have a bunion. X-Wide (4E for men, 2E for women) for swelling, an orthotic, or when wide shoes still pinch. Still unsure? Call Paul at (704) 846-0301 and he'll size you by phone.

Will my custom orthotic fit?

Yes. The insole lifts out and the shoe has extra depth, so your orthotic goes in its place. Take the Orthofeet insole out first rather than stacking the two.

How does the hands-free heel work?

Tie the laces once to the fit you like. After that, step down onto the back of the shoe: the heel folds down, then springs back up around your heel. To take them off, press the back down with your other foot.

Should I order my usual size?

Most people wear their usual size. If you're between sizes, or your feet swell by afternoon, go up a half size. If your usual shoes feel tight across the ball of the foot, choose Wide or X-Wide rather than a longer size.
